Our 2 year old had gone from being a great sleeper as a baby to being impossible to put down at night, it was taking us 2+ hours to settle him, he would get distressed at the mere mention of bed, and we thought we had tried everything. Marina is so wonderful. She came to help us when Eva was 8 months old. We were still rocking to sleep – it would often take 40+ mins with lots of crying (including for naps) and I didn’t look forward to bedtime. She would also only nap for 30 minutes a time and would refuse to nap in her pram. Since implementing Marina’s plan, Eva now falls asleep by herself in her cot within 10 minutes, sleeps for almost 12 hours at night, takes much longer naps and even sleeps in the pram! We’ve also been on holiday and continued our routine, and had no sleep changes at all. We are so grateful to Marina – Eva is getting so much more rest and we are a lot more relaxed! My husband and I had gone back and forth on the idea of ‘sleep training’ for months before we finally got in contact with Marina. Our son, then 9 months old, had never slept through the night, and his daytime naps were unpredictable and inconsistent. It would take up to an hour to rock him to sleep and we had begun to dread the evenings as our son would also wake constantly throughout the night. By the time we finally contacted Marina, I had been co-sleeping with our son for 2 months while my husband slept on an air mattress in the next room. We were feeling trapped and desperate. Marina is a miracle worker and completely saved my sanity! When we started with Marina my son Miles (9 months) was waking every 2/3 hours and would sometimes take up to two hours to go back down when he woke. I was feeling exhausted and broken. Our evenings were dominated with anxiety around bedtime and wake ups which interrupted dinner and any time to ourselves! Nap times either involved hours of screaming or contact naps which meant I had no time to myself.
We knew we needed to do something but didn’t know what. We had tried various methods which hadn’t worked for us and we knew we wanted to do it in a way which meant he felt safe and supported, rather than leaving him to cry it out.
Marina was so supportive and understanding of what we wanted. She tailored a program to suit our family’s needs and our timings. We started seeing improvements from the first week. He started sleeping through from 10 days and he now puts himself to sleep without crying. He also naps better and for longer. Best of all he clearly feels safe and happy in his cot on his own, and is better rested and happier. The difference is remarkable! Bedtime and evenings are enjoyable again. My husband and I have time to spend together. We are both finally sleeping and feel human again! And we are much happier as a family.
